BFS veg packer and delivery worker


Our new project, the Better Food Shed, based in Barking, is looking for a Veg Packer and Delivery Worker.  

The veg packer/delivery worker will work as part of our small packing team, performing a range of practical tasks to ensure our core work, the receiving and delivering of vegetables, is done quickly and efficiently and where appropriate, assist in the delivering of fruit and veg to box schemes and customers across London. This role will require someone who is physically fit and comfortable with early morning starts.

Better Food Shed is a new, organic wholesale operation being launched by Growing Communities in London. It aims to improve the local food system, as a new type of wholesale; rationalising and reducing the carbon intensity of distribution – particularly within London. BFS is focused on giving small, local, organic food producers efficient access to the London consumer market, predominantly via community-led box schemes.

As a not-for-profit organisation the Better Food Shed is committed to putting farmers and growers ahead of profit. It is committed to supporting small businesses run in an ecologically sound way and to help build a more sustainable food system. Aiming to Launch in February 2019, the Better Food Shed is being incubated in the initial stages by Growing Communities before aiming to become its own separate organisation later in 2019. Now we are looking for people to join us in this exciting project.

£23,790 p.a. pro-rata to hours.

12 months fixed term contract through project launch phase.

33 days annual leave (pro-rata).

Working from warehouse and office based at: 47 Thames Road, Barking, London, IG11 0HQ.
