Growing Communities welcomes an innovative organic cheese stall to its award-winning weekly farmers’ market at St Paul’s Church, Hackney, from Saturday 13 April 2024.
The new stall is a collaborative effort from the Organic Cheesemakers Network – selling cheeses direct from their farms: Feltham Farm in Somerset and High Weald Dairy in Sussex. Feltham’s Farm’s Penny Nagle is passionate about organic dairy and wants Hackney residents to experience what makes organic cheeses delicious and sustainable.
“For great cheese the quality of the milk is essential. Organic certification, if you’re an organic dairy farmer, is just that extra layer of environmental auditing, animal welfare and security you can pass onto the customer,” said Penny (below, with partner Marcus)
“We’re delighted to work with the Organic Cheesemakers Network at our all-organic market,” said Kerry Rankine, Growing Communities’ market coordinator. “Not only are these farmers producing outstanding artisan cheeses, but they are supporting biodiversity and a healthy soil. Organic farms have up to 50% more wildlife than conventional farms and can sequester more carbon.”
The cheeses on sale will include Feltham Farm’s Gert Lush, which won Silver in the British Cheese Awards in March 2024 and Sussex Blossom a Sussex sheep’s cheese from High Weald Dairy, which won Silver in the World Cheese Awards in 2023.
The farmers' market is open every Saturday from 10am to 2.30pm at St Paul’s Church, Stoke Newington Road, London, N16 7UE.
