The Better Food Shed, our not-for-profit wholesale and distribution hub, is in urgent need of a new home.
We've been operating successfully for the past three years and we love being based in east London, but sadly we have to leave our current warehouse by the end of this year.
Can you help find a home for this amazing project that's improving access to sustainable food for tens of thousands of Londoners?
We’re looking to rent, sublet or share a space and could set up very quickly.
Scroll down to find out what we're looking for and how you can help.
As a start-up business that is keen to grow and extend our work with schools and residents, we’d hope to be in position to pay more in the future. Sharing a space and using it for half the week could enable us to pay the equivalent of £20 a square foot.
As a groundbreaking, not-for-profit food enterprise working to increase local sourcing, build climate-friendly supply chains, and give Londoners access to more affordable organic food, we would appreciate some financial support with this.
Growing Communities is a not-for-profit enterprise working to create a fair and sustainable food system. We've been based in Hackney for 25 years, where our veg box scheme and farmers' market feed over 8,500 residents a year, and we partner with a large network of SMEs, social businesses, and food access organisations through our collection point and food donation schemes.
The Better Food Shed is Growing Communities’ wholesale operation and supplies businesses, some council services and schools with over 20 tonnes of climate-friendly, sustainable, fair, local, seasonal fresh produce every week. Find out more.
If you are able to suggest a suitable space in one of the boroughs we mentioned above, or are local employer or land owner who might have space, or know someone who might be able to help us find a new home, or are a funder who could generously subsidise the rent, please contact Danny Fisher, Shed project lead, and specify which of these areas you can help with.
And, of course, if you are a member of the GC veg scheme of one of the other London Better Food Traders who are supplied by the Shed – please keep buying the veg and encourage your friends to do the same.
Thank you!

* The space would be staffed Monday 9am-1pm, Tuesday 6am-3pm and Wednesday 6am-3pm, but we could be flexible on this. During the rest of the week, we'd need space for two vans, a forklift and some cold storage. HGV deliveries often happen overnight.
