As bird (Avian) flu is now endemic in the UK, all English and Welsh farmers are now required to keep all birds inside – including chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. Galileo Farm have already had to fence in their ducks and geese and keep them away from the ponds and waterholes they love as the bird flu risk has mounted. They’ve even designed special head-plunge buckets for the ducks and geese who can wet their heads (and feathers) without entering the water. The farm has brought in bio-security measures, involving disinfectant foot dips for everyone and everything entering or exiting the farm – all more work during the busy pre-Christmas period, a very busy time for the Peckhams' small family farm.
